Poverty
When we took the bus from Mexico City to Puebla, it was dark and you couldn't really see the countryside. Yesterday we took the bus back to Mexico City and we could see the countryside. It is incredible with all the fields of food growing, trees and mountains. However it is sad in some places. I saw people living on the side of the highway that were literally living in shacks. In one place all the people had for cover was two blue tarps. They were living in a small community and threw their garbage over the hill. The kids were standing outside around a fire. I can certainly see why some people are so desperate to get to the United States so they can escape the poverty. The gap between rich and poor in this country is staggering. You don't see much begging though. Instead of begging, people are always trying to sell you something. At every red light there is someone one to wash your car, clean your windshield, or sell you eveything from chargers for your cell phone to chicklets. Sometimes they will have a baby strapped to their backs.
